Bird of Paradise Guitar Slides Create New Possibilities
I m p o s s i b l e ? You say it's impossible to play a chord with all your fingers and
throw in a quick slide lick and then play that full four fingered flatted
ninth chord? Impossible? Not anymore! Just look there, to your left.
The guitarist looking to expand the versatility of technique or jump start creativity will want to try the new Bird of Paradise Rotatable Guitar Slide by Digital Revolution, maker of Bird of Paradise Capos. The Rotatable Slide adds innovation to a standard accessory for the player of acoustic and electric guitar.
Creative players can now switch quickly from slide licks to chords and scales using all fingers without interrupting the solo passage. Made from heavy gauge polished stainless steel, this slide is the invention of Raul Jimenez. "This will open up a whole new kind of guitar playing," says Jimenez, a guitarist from Southern California who has combined many styles in his own music. "I've always liked slide guitar effects, but I was frustrated that I had to stop playing whenever I wanted to use my fingers," the inventor said. "I developed this slide to make switching back and forth easy."
James Marron: "Specializing in contemporary classical guitar music, I'm often called upon to use slide techniques interspersed with intricate fingerings. This slide makes these transitions so much easier."
Slide guitar has long been heard in Hawaiian, country, dobro and delta blues but more recently rock and fusion guitar players have been putting the slide sound into their music. These effects are done in several different ways: with a metal or glass bar applied over a laptop Hawaiian guitar or pedal steel guitar; with a "bottleneck" slide made of glass or metal tubing on a guitar outfitted with a raised bridge; or on a steel strung acoustic guitar on which the player alternates conventional fret-stopped notes with slide licks. Slide players often employ special open tunings for unconventional harmonic effects.
[Guitar slides are among the most popular accessories and are considered an important source of revenue for many music retailers. Digital Revolution's colorful counter displays support the coordinated packaging of Bird of Paradise Slides as well as Capos. ]
